East Coast Roots, Global Impact: Apryll Aileen Joins the Grammy Recording Academy
New Brunswick singer-songwriter Apryll Aileen has become a voting member of the Grammy recording academy, marking a major milestone for Canadian artists.

A Major Milestone for an Independent Artist
New Brunswick singer-songwriter Apryll Aileen has officially joined the Grammy recording academy as a voting member. The pop musician, who recently received an East Coast music award nomination, views the achievement as a meaningful validation within a demanding industry.
Becoming a voting member allows Aileen to submit her work for award consideration, cast ballots across categories, and attend the annual ceremony in Los Angeles this February. Membership also grants access to career-building professional development and networking events.
Building Connections Across North America
Aileen’s journey involved years of establishing industry contacts in major music hubs. Over a decade ago, she began spending significant time in Los Angeles, opening one holiday season for prominent acts like Al Jardine of the Beach Boys and Steve Ferrone, drummer for Tom Petty. She lived in L.A. off and on for roughly five years, while also working in New York, Toronto, and the United Kingdom.
Work in television and film proved especially crucial to sustaining her career. Through music publicist Fiona Bloom, whom she met more than ten years ago at a MusicNB conference in Miramichi, Aileen secured placements writing and recording music for screen productions, including the song “Under My Tree” for the Hallmark series Mistletoe Murders.
Staying Rooted in the East Coast
Despite her expanding international network, Aileen remains grounded in the Maritimes, dividing her time between Saint John and Halifax. While she plans to visit Nashville frequently to incorporate country influences into her next album and participate in the local Grammys chapter, she intends to keep her primary home base on the East Coast.
To join the academy, Aileen was nominated by two current voting members—including Nashville singer-songwriter Meghan Pulles—and evaluated by a peer review panel. Industry experts note the rarity of Canadian independent artists gaining access to the 15,000-member organization, pointing out that her new position offers a platform to inspire and advocate for other independent musicians.
